iPhone Photography

Today is my 99th post on 'The Smoking Camera' blog! It's hard to believe that next week will be the 100th! Hopefully I'll get to 200 but that's a long way in the distance.

This week I'm posting a few more of my iphone photos. I've started experimenting with some of the various app filters that you can now download.

The first is a sunset at Black Rock Beach. I often drive along Beach Road in Melbourne and marvel at the stunning sunsets and amazing colors in the sky, yet I have never taken my camera down there to capture his.

Recently I finally stopped my car and wandered over and snapped a few shots on my iphone. I was very happy with the final results, which I've posted below.

The second is of our pet cat. The cat was a stray that was rescued and rehoused with us. There's nothing she enjoys more than hiding and waiting for a victim to walk past before she pounces. I managed to get this shot with the iphone. I added some vinaigrette to the edges to create a more dark effect.

Giant Buddha

Recently on a trip to Hong Kong I went on a day trip to visit the Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. The Big Budda is about a one hour train trip out of Hong Kong. The Big Buddha sits a daunting 34 meters tall on top of a building on top of a steep hill (and a lot of stairs...).

One of the fun things about getting to the Big Buddha is a trip on the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car.  The day trip was worth it as the Island was great for Photography. Whilst I didn't explore any more of the island there looks like there's tons more to see and do...

The only thing I will say is get there early as the tourists and locals will appear by the truck loads and the cable car does sell out.

Singapore from the top of the Marina Bay Sands

Recently on a trip to Singapore I had the opportunity to stay at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.  Anybody who has been to Singapore in the last 5 years would have seen the Hotel as it looks like 3 buildings with the giant surf board ontop.

The Hotel it's self is huge and amazing but it's famous for it's roof top pool. The pool is one of Singapore's biggest drawcards and it does get crowded. However nothing beats floating in the pool watching the sunset over Singapore.

The photo Im posting today is taken from the pool deck at the Marina Bay Sands showing the Singapore Skyline at dusk.

Macro Photography-Gecko

Over Christmas I went to Queensland to see family. One of the interesting this about staying in Queensland is the amount of little creatures that you consistently find inside and outside the house.

Geckos are every where and while eating lunch I spotted this little gecko sitting on a leave. I shot this little fellow using my Canon 5D Mk 2 and a Canon 100mm Macro lens.

I took these shots on my iphone.

iphone Panorama

Mobile phone camera photography is on the rise, just about every one takes photos with their devices.

Today I'm posting a panorama I took with my iphone 4. This panorama was shot at Black Rock Beach at sunset. I then stiched it together in Photoshop CC and a couple of minor tweaks in Lightroom 5 and then here you go!

Big Bash League 2014

As most of my readers would known I am keen on sports photography. Last week I went to the Big Bash League in Melbourne and spent the night taking tons and tons of photos.

I use my Canon 50d (due to the frame rate compared to the Canon 5d Mk2) and the 70-200mm Lens, which is the largest that Docklands Stadium would allow. I did however take my 2x canon extender.

During the daylight hours I got some great shots of the warm up however as the night went on the camera struggled. I processed these photos in Adobe Lightroom 5.

Here are two photos that I have processed this week.

Michael LUMB from Sydney Sixers

Jordan SILK from Sydney Sixers

Boston Public Library - Welcome 2014

It's hard to believe it's been 4 weeks since I started my break and now it's over! Welcome to 2014!

Today I'm posting some photos I took when I was last in the USA. These Photos are from the Boston Public Library. We only discovered this amazing building by accident while out exploring and so happy we did.

There is an amazing stair case with lions (which I have posted my photos of today), a stunning court yard, huge reading hall and other mind blowing rooms.

As a photographer I enjoyed this building and highly recommend it to anyone who visits Boston.

Enjoy and I'll see you next week.
